Zenith Nantong set to hit its green target with homogenising line

Date:2022/3/17 Source: CISDI

A solid waste homogenising line is now running at Zenith Nantong Steel in China’s Jiangsu Province.

It marks an important step forward for Nantong’s target of zero solid waste discharge.

The line has been built by CISDI Thermal and Environmental Engineering Co to an EPC mode.

Playing an intrinsic role at Zenith Nantong’s solid waste treatment centre, the homogenising line is expected to be able to treat 300,000 tonnes a year.

Its tasks include the mixing of low-zinc, iron-bearing dusts of the entire steel plant and the undersize fines from the rotary hearth furnace’s DRI, and tempering their moisture levels to produce homogenised dusts. These dusts will be used as raw materials for one of the plant’s blast furnaces.

CISDI’s rotary hearth furnace is a super efficient, green treatment facility for iron-bearing solid wastes.

Iron and zinc is recovered separately from the plant’s waste materials. Extracted zinc powder can be sold, while the recovered iron pellets are used for blast furnaces. The steam in the treatment process is also an important recoverable energy.

As an example of the furnace’s waste recycling capabilities, when in use at a 200,000-tonne RHF-based treatment plant it will reduce carbon emissions by up to 147,000 tonnes a year, the equivalent of around 59,000 tonnes of standard coals, compared with an integrated steel plant with blast furnace at its core.

CISDI’s rotary hearth furnace plays an important role in China’s commitment to carbon emissions, while also achieving the full recovery of valuable metal elements from solid wastes.

Ten CISDI rotary hearth furnaces operating at China’s Yanshan, Baosteel Zhanjiang, Shanghai and WISCO, Shougang Jingtang and Xinyu steel plants now treat 2.25 million tonnes of solid wastes a year.

A further three are under construction at China’s Zenith Nantong and Donghai Special Steel, plus Vietnam’s Formosa Ha Tinh Steel.

CISDI is the No 1 supplier of RHFs in China, accounting for over 70 per cent of the market share. It has developed standardised RHF products featuring treatment capacities of 100,000, 200,000, 250,000 and 300,000 tonnes per annum.
