Cleaner, Safer and Smarter - WISCO’s stockyard transformed by CISDI

Date:2021/2/24 Source: CISDI

Baowu WISCO now has a super-smart, green and efficient stockyard C3.

CISDI carried out the transformation, re-designing the yard and applying intelligent tech.

The yard is now eco-friendly and has a bigger storage capacity. Production costs have been reduced and processes have been optimised.

It has been modified to CISDI’s patented ECIA stockyard model for bulk material-handling - and is built in a battery limit area of around 150,000 square metres.

CISDI contributed new solutions to combat complicated landform conditions.

The wharf feeding system is installed with a curved belt conveyor which has a small turning radius. This is its first application for China’s metallurgical sector. The hourly transport capacity now reaches 2,000 tonnes, a record high.

Unlike conventional tubular belt conveyors, the new, curved model adapts more easily to local landforms and reduces material losses. The belt conveyor operates more safely and with greener credentials, and the risk of incidences of collapse and explosion arising from material blockages is eradicated.

To prevent production from being interrupted, the rebuilt system had to be constructed over the existing belt conveyor’s supply lines.

CISDI made minute, strict management controls on the boundaries where new facilities met old, ensuring construction work took the least amount of time and did not interfere with production.

ECIA tech and equipment have achieved the following:

1) The maximum cross section of a stockpile has been increased to 1,000 square metres, while the existing yard’s span and total height has remained unchanged. Storage capacity has greatly improved and the capital cost per tonne of storing ores has been reduced.

2) A green stacker has been installed at the top of the yard. Long-distance drag chains were used to supply its power, water, gas and communications. A design first, an air cable supplies compressed air, solving conventional onboard air compressor problems such as frequent faults, instability and high operating costs. The stacker and its creative energy and media supply methods have improved dust collection efficiency.

3) The residual material recovery system has been optimised to lower the height of the stacking belt conveyor platform.

4) A stationary safe maintenance facility has been installed at the external side of the stacking belt conveyor, which improves accessibility for inspection and repair tasks and increases safety.

5) CISDI’s patented tech for a fully-functional, high-efficient screening facility has been installed to make operation of the lump ore charging system more graded, flexible and accurate. An undersized material switchover unit removes clogging.

6) Clean transfer tech and equipment have been applied, bringing flying dusts, material flows and cleaning and scraping processes under control. Each transfer point has been sealed more tightly and has become cleaner as a result. Fallen materials from dumping duty positions are automatically recovered, reducing manual tasks.
